Creating a Digital Collaborative Space the Size of a Football Field

I met with the Bluescape team (Elizabeth McGlauflin (COO), Nicholas Brown (VP Products), and Hillary Harper (Marcom Manager) in San Carlos, California to see a demo and discuss the possibilities that such a creative space can offer to a number of key vertical markets. I was seated in a front of a huge, wall-mounted digital display that could be loaded with all kinds of files - such as videos, powerpoint slides, graphics, spreadsheets, blueprints, and text. It could also be marked up with a "pen." At first glance, it reminded me of the Smartboards I've seen in classrooms in recent years. However, I quickly learned that a great deal of visionary thinking went behind creating this solution.
Why is this product innovative?
- It's cloud-based, allowing unlimited access from a variety of other mobile devices, laptops, and desktops.
- Remote participants can add their thoughts, inputs, and ideas into the workspace easily using their keyboard.
- The content can be shrunk or expanded using fingers, just like one does with an iphone.
- The space can be expanded to the size of a football field - imagine shrinking and adding, shrinking and adding content continuously as you collaborate with your teams on a concept, strategy, product, innovation,etc., to what seems like endless amount of space.
- All of this information can be saved.
- All of this information can be shared.
- It's scalable.
What are the possibilities? Architecture design, advertising, product development, education and training, manufacturing and other highly creative and/or collaborative activities rank higest to gain great value from such a technology. Healthcare and finance are other verticals that have successfully embrace this solution. Since it's scalable, it's a plausible solution for a wide range of companies that use a project-based, collaborative framework to design, develop, innovate, and/or educate. The company seems committed to adding the human element to the equation by focusing on the way people work and live, collaborate and create vs. simply developing the product itself. This is the kind of transformative solution we expect to see in the emerging world of Internet of Things and the Future of the Workplace.

Prior to joining Frost and Sullivan, I worked for Smith Barney for 5 years in its accounting division handling incentive compensation plans. In this position I was responsible, from an accounting and payroll perspective, for the capital accumulation and deferred compensation plans of top management and account executives. Thereafter, I worked as an account executive at Edward Jones, a brokerage company for approximately one year. In these positions, I learned much about the operations of a financial company, financial instruments, and sales techniques.
