Did SMART Technologies Create a New Collaboration Category?

Last year SMART Technologies unveiled the SMART kapp interactive white board. The product quickly gained a lot of industry interest an accolade because of its perfect balance of simplicity and technology which take the dry erase board into the 21st century by addressing dry erase board shortcomings while maintaining the pure ease of use we all know.

Yesterday SMART announced an expansion of the product line with SMART kapp IQ. The new products build on the kapp's concept and add the "what if it had this" type of features that bring in more complexity and increase the cost.
When asked how this fits into SMART's portfolio of interactive white boards, conferencing systems, Lync Room Systems and more, company executives responded that it is a whole new category that has a little overlap with other product but absolutely no direct competition.
Looking at the kapp IQ features, I might agree, but only tested deployments and research on actual use cases by end users will be proof for me.
